The Global 5000
When considering the global economy and the companies that operate in the world wide economy, one way to understand the shifts in the business is to look at the top companies. That is our mission here — tracking the largest 5000 companies across the globe.
The Global 5000 top 10 companies for 2006 are:
ExxonMobil
Wal-Mart Stores
Royal Dutch Shell
BP
Chevron
General Motors
Toyota Motors
Daimler
Total S.A.
Conoco Phillips
We currently show 2,235 companies with revenues of $1 billion or more
Fortune compiles a list of the largest 1000 public companies (by revenue) in the US. They also publish the Global 500 –The 500 largest public companies around the world (including the US) which has some overlap with the 1000 list. Additionally, Forbes publishes the Private company list of US private companies over $1 billion in revenue.
We need to look at these firms and beyond .. public and private in all countries.
Over time, we will be writing on results and updates from companies of this level around the globe.
